TIP: EASY SUBMIT W/ DMOZ
I would like to take a moment
to discuss your web site's performance with the search engines.
Many of you - ARE submitting your
site to the search engines on your own - kudos to you!!!
But for those of you who were
relying on me - we need to discuss a few things. A while ago, I had
advised you all that the fabulous submission service that I was using to
keep your sites regularly submitted the sites to the major search
engines for FREE, had gone under. How long could they keep
offering FREE submission services?!? Since I no longer have a free
service at my fingertips, I can no longer submit your web sites to the
search engines for free. In talking to a few of you over the past few
weeks - I am finding that a few of you have not keep up on your web site
submissions.
I figured that I either need to
educate my clients on how to submit their own web sites -or- we need to
work out a schedule to have myself continue to do it routinely on your
behalf. I am available if you would like to discuss your options.
Submitting to the search
engines is NOT HARD, it is the
most crucial factor in keeping your web site listed. The
submitting process is however time consuming. Any
employee in your company can be trained to process your submissions on
your behalf. If you stop
submitting, eventually your site will be dropped from the search
engine listings.
>>> The way
people perform searches changes as this world gets more and more
technologically advanced. If you are client who has
been with me for years... -[thank you]- ...your site's meta info
should probably be checked to see if the key terms & phrases we used
are still current - there are many new optimization techniques should
be applied to your older web site. We should probably take the time to
check these things out and make sure you are still listed w/ the
search engines - without these new techniques - your site has most
likely dropped out of the top 20 and you may have noticed a drop in
your web traffic also. <<<
To submit your site
- even if you hire me to do this for you - you should start by making a
list of your local counties -- why -- Google and Yahoo have both
launched LOCAL Search Services, and if you don't operate a business that
ships products across the USA, then you should localize your submission
to the specific areas you service...resulting in truer search results!
First thing: make a list of your
local counties - go deeper - even list the towns. Try to submit to 4
localities per week, check off & date the ones you submitted your site
under, eventually you will be done and then start over!! Frequent
re-submissions will keep the search engines looking at your site.
Now if you want to submit your
own web site, I have found that submitting thru the DMOZ works very
well. YOU CAN SUBMIT TO EACH SEARCH ENGINE
INDIVIDUALLY IF YOU CHOOSE - IT IS RECOMMENDED - BUT NOT ALWAYS NECESSARY.
I recommend trying the DMOZ first and then manually
submit to the Search Engines that didn't list you - or if you are in a
hurry - you can pay for priority indexing from the major Search Engines.
The DMOZ? Who are they? "
The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive
human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed
and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors. The
Open Directory powers the core directory services for
the Web's largest and most popular search engines and portals,
including Netscape Search, AOL Search, Google, Lycos, HotBot, DirectHit,
and hundreds of others."
Here are the Simple steps for
submitting your web site, regionally to your
particular business coverage area:
go as deep as you can in locating
your closest areas/towns/counties
then choose: "business & economy"
- OR other that best describes your business -
Look around you may find a more descriptive category for your specific
type of business
up at the very top of the page
under the green title bar
you will see this link:
suggest URL
when you click that it will allow
you to process listing your site w/ the DMOZ - who supplies all of the
major search engines with their results....
Title of Site:
copy from meta tags - see notes below
Site Description:
copy from meta tags - see notes below
then
SUBMIT
Okay, how do you fill this form
in?? All of your web sites are REGULAR!!
Title & Description Fields - the
easiest way I've found is to copy from your web sites meta tags. To
view them, open your web site's main page in your browser window
(internet explorer...) then once that page is opened, go to your tool
bar and click VIEW - go to SOURCE, and
another little window will pop up showing you the meta tags we installed
to your site:
IMPORTANT NOTE: When cutting and pasting from your
meta tags be sure NOT to copy the symbols such as < " > those will not
be accepted and can block your submission.

Service, Carpet Rug Cleaners --> If you
have these tags this can be your Title or scroll down to copy the actual
meta title.

Can you submit more that
one page? Absolutely - but to achieve successful search engine
placement/ranking - any page you are submitting
should have meta tags & have been optimized. A page without
these SEO techniques will not rank well with the search engines - unless
you are the only one in that area in the category you've chosen - which
is not likely the case as we all have competition to deal with!
Okay - if this was all too much,
and you have questions, comments or just want to find out the best way
to get your site found - call me, I am here and happy to help you make
sure your web site gets listed & listed well with the search engines!!
>
Remember if your site has outdated meta tags, it would be a good idea to
consider updating them and the search engine optimization techniques
that were originally applied to your web site.
Thanks & Good Luck!!! I am here if
you need me, just call....

TIP: LOCAL SEARCH ENGINES & FINDING THE RIGHT KEYWORDS
Hello Again...
I am continuing with my GOAL to EDUCATE my wonderful clients about the
Search Engines. I know my email yesterday was lengthy but
"informative" and "helpful" are the words I am hearing from those of you
who actually read it and replied to me.
IF
you want to promote your BUSINESS via the
INTERNET SEARCH ENGINES, please read
on ... if not - sorry to intrude, just
delete this email as it's being sent to my general web client list!
Every single day I rcve' tons of
email to help my business grow...bla bla bla...but I have paid special
attention to and even signed up to rcve' newsletters that pertain to
e-marketing & search engines. Today I read an article
that was so much about what I had personally written yesterday, that it
re-enforces what I was trying to tell you.
Please take a moment to read it, as
it will help you understand more about the future of search engines. Call
me and let's get started optimizing your web site for these "local"
search engine spiders!
The Future Of
Search: Beyond The Horizon - The future of search engine marketing -
Follow these two big
mandates, let's look at some things that could or will define search
in the near future.
#1 The Localization of Search
Search has already taken its first few steps towards being more
geographically relevant. The big players are all working on providing
results that are targeted to the area that you're searching from.
Suddenly, search moves from being a global tool to one you could use
to find the right mechanic in your neighborhood, or a Thai restaurant
in the city you're visiting. The biggest stumbling block is the method
a search engine uses to determine your current location. You could
supply the information, either knowingly or unwittingly, or the search
engine may try to use your IP address to determine where you're at.
Both methods have their drawbacks.
But the localization of search is vital in moving search as a viable
marketing tool from businesses tapping into a global market to the
shop down the street. Search is setting its sights squarely on the
Yellow Page market in making this move.
MY NOTES:
Now, yesterday did you make your list of towns & counties? Why not?
Let's get those keywords on your web site. But even if they are not you
can still submit your site to the DMOZ in the states, localities, towns,
and counties as I mentioned yesterday. The search engines WILL READ
your meta info for relevancy - send me your lists - so we can make sure
your localities are in your meta keywords!! By localizing your web
site you will already be a step ahead of the competitors, and your site
will be ready when the other search engines besides Yahoo and Google
begin to offer localized search queries.
#2 The
Personalization of Search
I don't think it's any great revelation to say that we all
search differently. For an interface that provides few options for
customization, we have seen a remarkable amount of divergence in both
how we use search engines and how we respond to the results. We are
human, we are unique, and we want a search tool that recognizes this.
This fact has not been lost on the engineers at Yahoo and Google. You
can bet your Google IPO budget that they're currently hard at work
building a user interface that allows you to tweak how you search and
what's presented to match your own personal tastes and preferences.
They're also working on intelligent systems that will gradually discover
your preferences by examining past behavior and quietly adjust your
search results based on what it learns.
MY NOTES:
How in blazes are you supposed to know how everyone else searches?? I
have some top secret FREE tools that I use to find out - I am sharing
them with you because I want your web sites to succeed!!!
Don't fret - if it's
been a while since your web site was optimized - it's not hopeless
together we can get you back into the search engines! If you
don't have time, that's what I am here for, let me know and we
can discuss re-optimizing your web site and get you back into a
submission regimen.
